Uses

● Broad spectrum keratin; distinguishes carcinomas from non-epithelial malignancies
Interpretation
=========================================================================
● Cytoplasmic staining
Positive stains - normal
=========================================================================
● Epithelium of bile ducts, bladder (urothelium), breast ducts, bronchi, colorectum, duodenum, endometrium, ileum, ovary, pancreas, prostate, stomach, thyroid
● Also hepatocytes, pituitary acini, pneumocytes
Positive stains - disease
=========================================================================
● Most carcinomas
● Also alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma (50%, Mod Pathol 2008;21:795)
Negative stains
=========================================================================
● Brain, endothelium, lymphocyte, muscle, nerves
● GIST, lymphoma, melanoma, sarcoma, schwannoma
