Biography of Nat Pernick, M.D.

Founder and President

DermatologyOutlines.com was founded as a service to the dermatology community, providing a free, no registration, online textbook of dermatology, as well as dermatology related jobs, conferences, fellowships, books, products and services.

Dr. Pernick is an AP/CP board certified Pathologist, but one of his true passions is computers.  In August 2001, he combined his diverse education with this passion to create www.PathologyOutlines.com.  In August 2008, he created this website, www.DermatologyOutlines.com. The site provides invaluable information regarding all aspects of Dermatology, with an initial focus is on dermatopathology.  The website does not charge visitors or require registration.  It is entirely supported by advertising.  This is consistent with his belief that online medical information should be free, and the website highlights other sources of free information.

Dr. Pernick has medical and law degrees from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Michigan).  He completed an anatomic and clinical pathology residency, and then a fellowship in surgical pathology and research at Wayne State University (Detroit Medical Center).  He has written or co-authored 13 publications to date.  He has over 30 years of experience designing computer systems, working first with Wang Laboratories, and subsequently for various clinical laboratories and private companies, the University of Michigan, the National Institutes of Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Dr. Pernick has previously served as Special Assistant Attorney General under Attorneys General Frank J. Kelley, Jennifer Granholm and Michael Cox, and had a private law practice for 20 years.
